Arbor Free Clinic

Volunteering @ Arbor

Arbor Free Clinic is staffed entirely by students and clinical volunteers from the Stanford community. Undergraduate students have the opportunity to interact with patients and medical professionals in a variety of ways: staffing the front desk, shadowing medical students and physicians, reading to children (Literacy Project), and completing special projects. Preclinical medical students learn how to take a medical history and present to an attending clinician, as well as to practice clinical procedures such as taking vital signs. Clinical medical students develop skills such as peforming a physical exam. Our physician volunteers act as both clinicians and teachers. In addition, students may gain extensive experience in running a community clinic by serving on the Arbor Steering Committee or as clinic managers.

An important aspect of the Arbor volunteer experience is working closely with a diverse patient population that is otherwise medically underserved. There are many opportunities for developing special projects to better assess and address the needs of this community.

We invite you to learn more about the volunteer experience at Arbor by visiting the Volunteer Profiles section.

Unfortunately, community members without a Stanford affiliation are not permitted to interact with protected patient information or provide health services. However, operations at Arbor require a huge amount of work "behind the scenes" including fund-raising, publiclity, and various administrative tasks. We invite those with a commitment to continuing involvement to find out how to help.
